_____
Historic Chatham Business District is one of the City of Miramichi’s most vibrant and unique urban communities offering a mix of small town charm, waterfront parkland and modern amenities one comes to expect in a city setting.
Located in Miramichi east, our Historic District is nestled near the province’s longest bridge and presents almost 100 shops complimented by our new Ship Station Marina, Waterford Green and the newly revitalized Elm Park. Our entire downtown was proclaimed as New Brunswick’s first historic district decades ago and it is easy to understand why!
From Jacques Cartier’s voyage of 1534 through early French rule and England’s victory in 1758, our history is shaped by sea and timber. Our district is home to the famous Cunard brothers who established a huge shipbuilding enterprise on our waterfront in 1839 where over 450 ships were ultimately launched off of our shores.
You will also find a number of unique Miramichi events throughout the year in our downtown. These include Canada’s Irish Festival, the annual Pumpkin Fling, the new Great Pumpkin Walk, the Santa Claus Parade, the new Christmas Village and others. We also hope to launch our rescheduled and inaugural Miramichi Buskersfest planned for August 19-22nd, 2021 and will revisit this effort in spring to assess the pandemic situation at that time.
Our Mission
The mission of the Historic Chatham Business District is to foster a prosperous economic climate for the members through advocacy, beautification, promotion, development and preservation of our waterfront community.
